Alma M Carpenter Public Library

Welcome to the Alma M. Carpenter Public Library

The first documented library in Sour Lake was organized by the Women's Club in 1937. On April 17, 1952 the library was re-established as the Alma M. Carpenter Public Library. Since then we have served as the central library facility in Sour Lake, TX. Our collection contains over 17,000 volumes and circulates roughly 1,000 items per year to a population of 2,700 residents.

COVID-19 UPDATE: The library is still open to the public and we have lifted our browsing restrictions. Patrons are now welcome to browse our selection as normal. Before you browse we do ask that you please sanitize your hands before doing so (hand sanitizer is available at the front counter) and while not a requirement, gloves are recommended. We hope to see you soon!
